Information & Schedule
Capturing authentic craftsmanship in photographs is the most rewarding aspect of reportage photography. In the weissundschwarzkunst workshop, not only can we discover venerable printing presses and period pieces, but we can also observe the professionals at work and witness a cultural heritage threatened with extinction: the traditional hand techniques of book printing, bookbinding, and papermaking.
A true delight for every photographer's heart: We'll photograph the craftspeople in various studios and practice being ready at the right moment, in the right place, and with the right camera settings. We'll learn how to tell the story in a lively and engaging way that will resonate with viewers. Learn the art of storytelling, exciting series, and omission. At the end of the day, you'll take home your very own photo reportage.
Photographing people in their creative work has a very special magic. It requires a look behind the scenes, a dose of curiosity, and a pinch of courage. The protected setting of our workshop is the perfect place to practice this. Micha Eicher, reportage photographer and winner of the Swiss Photo Award in the Reportage/Storytelling category, will vividly demonstrate how to train your eye, observe ahead, change perspectives, recognize details, and play with available light. Our tools: image composition, context, and structure lead to our very own visual language. Seeing their story is the most important foundation for a meaningful photo series.
